"Am-Paro" The word "paro," meaning butterfly in Tagalog. The butterfly is a metaphor for transformation, cultural pride, and elegance, linking Filipino heritage to modern fashion.
Am-Paro is a Philippine inspired clothing line that was started by Tess Guerzon as a side hustle during the pandemic. Her business started as a need to find a filipinana dress to wear for a special occasion, but to her disappointment all her late mothers dresses were ruined in storage. Faced with a pridicament of what what to wear, she wanted some distincly Filipino that was affordable and versatile that would enhance her existing gowns and dresses. Hence, the filipinana bolero! (terno inspired butterfly sleeves) On her many visits to the philippine she decided to bring a few boleros back for friends and family. Hence" Am-paro" was officailly started in 2024. Am-Paro named after her late grandmother Amparo, who came to the United States with Tess's mother as American Nationalist as importer Philippine handicrafts for the 1962 World's Fair in Seattle and later opened The Philippine Gift Shop in Chicago, Ill.
